Advanced Psychedelic Retreat: Why Some People Return

Many people join their first psychedelic retreat hoping for clarity, healing or a new direction in life. They often leave with profound insights and a renewed sense of direction. But what happens afterwards?

For some, one retreat is exactly what they needed. For others, something unexpected happens. The retreat becomes more than a meaningful weekend—it becomes the beginning of a journey that continues long after they return home.

Transformation Continues Long After the Retreat

A retreat can create powerful insights, but lasting change rarely happens over a single weekend. The real work begins afterwards, as everyday life resumes and those insights gradually become part of how we live.

Relationships evolve. Old patterns begin to lose their grip. New habits slowly replace old ones. What once felt like a breakthrough becomes part of everyday life.

Many of our participants tell us they only truly begin to understand the impact of their retreat weeks or even months later. The ceremony may have ended, but the journey has not.

Some people continue that journey without ever attending another retreat. Others eventually feel called back—not because the first retreat wasn't enough, but because they are no longer the same person who first walked through our doors.

Returning Doesn't Mean Starting Again

One of the greatest privileges of our work is welcoming participants back.

The retreat centre may feel familiar, and so may the facilitators, but the person arriving is different. Life has continued. New experiences have shaped them, new challenges have emerged, and new questions are waiting to be explored.

The confidence gained from a previous retreat often changes the way people approach the experience. There is usually less uncertainty and more curiosity. Less searching for answers and more openness to whatever unfolds.

Returning isn't about repeating an experience.

It's about continuing a journey from a completely different place.

Something Beautiful Began to Happen

When I founded Elevated Mind Retreats, I never imagined people would return.

I believed our role was to guide people through one meaningful retreat before they continued their lives with new perspectives and practical tools for change.

Instead, something beautiful began to happen.

People came back.

Not because they wanted to recreate their first experience, but because life had continued. They had integrated what they learned, grown through new challenges, and reached a point where they felt ready for another chapter.

Over time, familiar faces appeared again. Conversations picked up where they had ended months earlier. Friendships formed. People who had once arrived as strangers naturally welcomed new participants with warmth and understanding.

Without ever planning it, a community had started to grow.

Today, that community has become one of the most meaningful parts of Elevated Mind Retreats.

📖 It all started with one retreat

I'm Niels van der Valk, founder of Elevated Mind Retreats. Before creating our retreats, I was simply someone recovering from burnout, searching for a different way forward. The Retreat tells the story of that very first guided psilocybin retreat and how it ultimately changed the direction of my life.

What Makes an Advanced Psychedelic Retreat Different?

The Advanced Retreat wasn't created because our 3-Day Retreat needed more. It was created because some of our participants did.

As more people returned, it became clear that some weren't looking for another introduction to psychedelic work. They were looking for an opportunity to continue their personal development alongside others who already understood the importance of preparation, trust, ceremony and integration.

That realisation inspired the Advanced Retreat.

Designed for around twenty participants, it combines the energy of a larger community with the personal support of a team of four experienced facilitators.

Throughout the weekend, participants experience key moments together as one group. The traditional sweat lodge with a gentle microdose helps everyone arrive, ground and connect before the deeper work begins.

Solo nature immersion, Psychedelic Breathwork and the guided psilocybin ceremony create experiences that strengthen the sense of trust and connection within the group.

Alongside these larger experiences, every participant becomes part of a small tribe group, led by its own facilitator. These groups remain together throughout the retreat, providing a safe space for sharing, personal reflection and individual guidance. It creates the intimacy of a small retreat while preserving the powerful energy of a larger community.

The final day shifts towards integration through a cacao ceremony, journalling, group reflection and an optional ice bath, helping participants bring their insights back into everyday life.

Throughout the weekend, participants are looked after by two private chefs preparing fresh vegetarian meals using seasonal ingredients, creating an environment where everyone can remain fully present and cared for from beginning to end.

More Than Another Retreat

One of the biggest misconceptions about personal growth is that it follows a straight line.

It doesn't.

Life changes.

We change.

Sometimes the greatest value of returning isn't discovering something completely new.

It's recognising how much you've already grown since your first retreat.

That perspective only comes with time.

Could This Be Your Next Chapter?

The Advanced Retreat is designed for people with previous psychedelic retreat experience who feel ready to continue their personal development within a safe, supportive and experienced community.

It isn't about going further for the sake of it.

It's about recognising when the next chapter feels right.

If that resonates with you, we'd love to welcome you.
